POST NAME - DGM Controller & Business Analyst 
QUALIFICATION - CA/CMA/MBA
EXPERIENCE - 10 Years
LOCATION - Chennai

JOB DESCRIPTION :-
  • Provide financial information on BU activities to  assist management in understanding the results and efficiency of the BU operations and aid in business decisions making.
  • Act as  Controlling Business Partner for the Business Units management team.
  • Lead, monitor and review the Business Finance activities (e.g., Operational Planning, Forecasting, Reporting), formulate financial policies; preparation of Management accounts and analysis; ensuring compliance to guidelines; monitoring and controlling cash management.
  • Harmonise and maintain BU relevant Financial systems & tools; create a bridge between BU requirements and other functions (e.g., CRM). Co-ordinate with appropriate functions to meet BU requirements
  • Support BU initiatives with respect to Capex (CIR evaluations), Investments ( expansions ), Business model changes (e.g., Integration of Dahej Splitter in books, restructuring)

 Main Tasks

  • To sustain an efficient operational reporting system in the BU to ensure that the RBU, relevant Management members and the business heads / leads are informed timely of the business performance. Early warning reporting on Budget variances. Nurture and sustain data reliability of SAP and BW reports, take necessary measures to integrate different SAP reports to achieve this.  Prepare necessary monthly reports (BEM, MRM, Dashboards etc.)
  • To aid the Business Unit Marketing in periodic information on Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) in line with changes in Material costs with an aim to achieve the margin targets in Absolute and percentage terms. 
  • To lead the ICTP process by ensuring compliance to Group guidelines and also ensuring appropriate margin at Country level. Advise the BU management on adverse/positive changes in ICTPs so as to maintain margins / capture opportunities.
  • To monitor and coordinate the process to develop the annual budget planning for all P&L / Segment Line items by providing timely guidance, economic forecast data, background information, template etc., to collect and consolidate the data according to schedules, standards. Prepare budget statements according to defined principles and budgeting time limits.
  • To aid in investment programmes of the BU by providing assistance on Financial calculations, PVI etc., to enable Management/Manufacturing to take informed decisions on Capital Expenditure.
  • To monitor the Working Capital by Flagging Sales Community on AR situation, DSO development and Overdue situation
  • Governance: Ensure overall compliance of the BU with corporate policies and objectives (e.g. contract management). Follow up on internal/external audit reports and ensure timely implementation of recommendations. Ensure full compliance.

Business Consulting & analysis and recommendations

  • Provide required Management reports with respect to Sales, CM1 with appropriate trends and comparision with previous year / budgets. Provide required clarifications on the Margin development.
  • Submit an early warning signal in case any deviation from the budget / KPI in timely manner.
  • Implement consolidated margin analysis at customer/product level. Consolidate and comment on analysis result and give recommendation for improvements.
  • Drive Value Based Management (VBM) implementation.
  • Guide the team / Provide data / reports : Risk reports, BU inputs for Management Discussion & Analysis report.
  • Prepare unit Specific Profit & Loss statement, to enable review of Unit Profitability and aid in strategic direction.
  • Track Discretionary and other costs, and advise leadership team on Cost trends, correct mistakes in Cost element/Cost Center accounting before month close to ensure that Costs get reported under the correct P&L Line items.

Pricing role

  • Overall pricing Accountability is with Sales & Marketing. Controller is responsible to coach Marketing and sales organization with regards to the concept of consolidated business steering. Controlling is Accountable to provide to Industry teams with detailed production cost for locally produced materials/materials coming from a different group company/3rd parties.

Rebate and Commission Contracts

  • Colloborate with/guide the commercial team to structure new agent/customer contracts and customer incentive plans (rebate schemes). Advise the Industry Leads with regard to the financial implications of contractual terms and condition to enhance value from new Rebate schemes/products/contracts.
  • In addition, Accountable for the frequent review of existing policies and contracts to ensure that these are commercially viable and needed provisions (e.g. rebates, commissions) are correctly accounted for to ensure valid P&L data.

Proper product costing, unit profitability statement and cost optimization

  • Ensure correct product costing for local production to support BU in making valid business decision.
  • Ensure correct cost allocation of direct/indirect, local and sub region/region cost to unit.
  • Highlight mistakes in Bill of Materials / Drive corrections.
  • Ensure a fair allocation of costs by type of Sales. Ensure overall valid profitability statement of the unit and challenge/change misallocations.
  • Ensure that Product PUPs are correct and in line with Purchase orders / receipts.
  • Identify, trigger and monitor the realization of cost saving potentials and synergies through process re-engineering in the BU / benchmarking efforts in compliance with existing policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely provisions of probable fixed costs to match costs with Revenues.

Economic Evaluations

  • Provide Economic evaluation to Production Managers / Technical personnel on Capex Projects of the BU
  • Guide / Support BU with financial data / analysis required for Business cases meant for achieving the BU’s Strategic plans.

Short term/Mid-term Forecast / Operational Planning and Budget preparation

  • Ensure a valid forecast / operational planning / budget is done as scheduled including monitoring day to day business numbers that are aligned with forecast / operational planning / budget.
  • Manage the budgeting and operational planning process while coordinating, challenging and guiding the entire organization. Present and align Budget with relevant stake holders.

Working Capital Control

  • Perform necessary analysis and fix appropriate Credit Limits in line with estimated turnover / Credit period
  • Harmonise Credit periods of BU’s Customers in consonance with Margins being made / security of AR - Accountable
  • Coordinate and drive that Accounts Receivables stay within the budget and timely inform BU management  in case of any significant deviation. Drive proactive AR control and Flag the Sales Community with details of AR, Overdues, Unadjusted credits etc., enabling them to take timely actions.
  • Proper management of overall inventory/slow moving/expired stock. Drive active inventory control and follow up with SCM and sales team.

Monitoring and Reporting of Capital Expenditure

  • Proactively challenge and monitor new assets acquisitions, assets transfer and assets disposal
  • Prepare necessary reports in appropriate System and submit to stake holders

Other

  • Active participation and preparation of SPA.
  • Active participation in special projects like COAT, SAP HANA Implementation

Management of ICTP Procedure

  • Ensure total compliance of ICTP, CSA, SLA guidelines including respective documentation.
  • Provide necessary CUP data to RODIO and ensure that ICTPs for OMP Raw Materials are fairly charged
  • Review Gross Margins for Merchandise and take up with RODIO for necessary corrections to ensure that Legal entity makes MER EBIT as per guidelines.

Leadership

  • Influence decision-makers in a complex environment within and outside BASF (Regional and Global counter parts as appliacble), and drive actions/decisions.
  • Work closely with regional RBU for effective cross collaboration.
  • Optimize & strengthen relationship with stake holders and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Represent BASF to improve company image in relevant forums / events / networking.
