BSI exists to advance the ministry of Bible translation in India; supported by training, and publishing services; in partnership with, churches, agencies, and serves all the churches irrespective of denominations, castes, creeds, and languages. Our translations are based on the eclectic choice of available best manuscripts of originals of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek manuscripts. BSI also consults many texts in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, and many versions in English and other languages.
Through its endeavor, BSI keeps on updating the existing Texts as the languages are living organisms which grows as the society develops. Depends on the needs of the churches, it follows several methodologies in translations practices: It could either be literal or semi-literal and meaning based or functional equivalent translations. BSI guides all translators working under its auspices to ensure that all the words and all the propositional relationships among the words in the original text are meaningfully translated in ways the receptor languages allow and which are natural to them. BSI has accomplished completing Bibles in 72 languages and New Testament in additional 80 languages. At present, it handles 69 live projects. The principal languages of India received a minimum of two versions in each language. According to the Government of India’s data, there are 1652 languages/dialects spoken in India. However, several of these language speakers are bi-lingual. According to our survey, if the translation is carried out in at least 300 of these languages we are confident we can reach the entire population.
