This role is responsible for end-to-end inventory accounting, valuation, and cost management, including maintenance of statutory cost records and coordination of cost audit. The position ensures accurate cost capture across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods, leveraging SAP S/4HANA (MM, FI, CO modules), while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and strong internal financial controls.
Key Responsibilities
1. Inventory Accounting & Control (Plant + SAP Driven)
- Account for all inventory transactions: RM, WIP, FG, consumables, stores & spares, scrap
- Monitor material movements: GRN, issues, transfers, subcontracting
- Perform periodic physical stock verification and reconcile with SAP stock
- Investigate and report stock variances, shrinkage, and process losses
- Ensure proper cut-off procedures during month-end and year-end
2. Inventory Valuation & Costing
- Ensure valuation of inventory as per FIFO / Weighted Average / Standard Costing (as applicable)
- Perform standard cost roll-up using BOM and routing in SAP
- Analyse material, labour, and overhead variances (plan vs actual)
- Monitor slow-moving, non-moving, and obsolete inventory and recommend provisions
- Work on product costing (CK11N / CK40N) and cost estimates in SAP
3. Cost Records Maintenance (Statutory Compliance)
- Maintain cost records as per Companies (Cost Records and Audit) Rules, 2014
- Prepare product-wise / process-wise cost sheets
- Capture quantitative details: materials, utilities, labour, overheads
- Ensure alignment with applicable Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)
- Maintain proper documentation for cost data and assumptions
4. Cost Audit Coordination
- Support cost audit under Companies Act, 2013
- Prepare cost statements, annexures, and reconciliation with financial accounts
- Coordinate with cost auditors and resolve audit queries
- Ensure timely filing of cost audit reports (CRA forms, if applicable)
- Track and implement audit observations
5. SAP S/4HANA – MM, FI & CO Integration
- Ensure accurate inventory postings in SAP MM (Material Management)
- Validate material master, valuation class, price control (V/S), and GL mapping
- Work on FI integration for inventory accounting and reconciliation
- Support CO module activities:
- Product costing
- Cost centre accounting
- Internal orders
- Run and monitor:
- Material Ledger (Actual Costing)
- Month-end closing (MM/FI/CO integration)
- Resolve system-related discrepancies and support SAP improvements
6. Month-End & Year-End Closing (Plant + HO Coordination)
- Perform inventory and costing closure activities in SAP
- Ensure:
- GR/IR reconciliation
- Stock in transit accounting
- Provision for expenses and inventory adjustments
- Reconcile inventory sub-ledger with General Ledger
- Support financial reporting and schedules
7. MIS, Analytics & Business Support
- Prepare:
- Inventory aging reports
- Consumption analysis
- Cost variance analysis (standard vs actual)
- Provide insights on:
- Cost reduction opportunities
- Process inefficiencies
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and standard cost revision
- Work closely with production, procurement, and supply chain teams
8. Internal Financial Controls (IFC) & Governance
- Implement and monitor internal controls over inventory and costing
- Ensure maker-checker controls in SAP
- Support internal audit, statutory audit, and IFC testing
- Ensure compliance with SOPs and financial discipline
- Strengthen documentation and audit trail
9. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work with:
- Production (for yield, wastage, BOM accuracy)
- Procurement (for material pricing and vendor analysis)
- Stores (for stock handling and controls)
- Sales (for SKU profitability analysis)
